About the Pantry

Guilford Cares welcomes anyone in need of supplemental food for themselves or their families.  Our pantry, with the help of state agencies, local businesses, and individual donations, provides a wide variety of fresh, frozen, canned and packaged food items. Guilford Cares also makes extra food available to students at the Guilford Central School.

Guilford Cares started with a health-based mission. The founders of the organization wanted to make sure that their neighbors did not "fall through the cracks" in our healthcare system. It did not take long to recognize that our community had other needs, perhaps as crucial. "Food Insecurity" constitutes a constant challenge across Vermont and at our doorstep as well.

Pat Haine leading a dedicated squad of enthusiastic volunteers, operates The Guilford Cares Food Pantry. They feed a significant number of families who experience difficulties putting enough food on the table despite working multiple jobs. The citizens of our community generously donate to allow Guilford Cares to help out. The State of Vermont provides support.

Medical Equipment Lending

Upon request

Guilford Cares has a stockpile of walkers, wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and other equipment citizens might need at home when recovering from injury or surgery.

Community members often donate equipment they no longer need for Guilford Cares to make available to others.

We loan the equipment for as long as needed.

Community Nurse Visits

Guilford Cares got started to fill a gap in our community's health care.  We have a great community nurse, Sandy Merz, RN, to help us make sure no one falls through the cracks, figuratively of course. Let us know your needs.

A Community Nurse does not replace the usual medical services we use for treatment or even in an emergency, but she will add a layer of coordination Guilford residents always have found highly valuable.

Rides & Visits

A friendly neighbor visit can help out someone who is housebound. We check in on folks who are home alone to chat and see if they need someone to run an errand, maybe to reach something on a high shelf, or quite often for a game of cards. We also help out with rides to medical appointments and trips to the grocery store when our residents need such help.

Referrals

Often there are other Vermont agencies that can help our neighbors in ways Guilford Cares cannot. We usually know what is available and how to reach those sources of help. You can always contact us for a referral to such sources of help. Feel free to reach out to us with any and all questions.

Tech Support

You told us that you need help with computers (don’t we all!) We found help. In the Tech Mentor Program, computer professionals volunteer their time to go to your house to help you sort out problems. They can help you select the needed equipment, set it up for you, and walk you through using it to achieve the desired result.

They get rave reviews! Why not give us a call next time you get stuck on a computer problem?
