Senior Walks

Guilford Cares sponsors a nature walk each month in warm weather. Sometimes, the nature walk may have more to do with history or architecture than nature, but it is still walking and interesting. We have had some wonderful walk leaders who bring a wealth of information, and the walkers make new friends while they exercise and learn. This activity can become habit-forming!

Senior Walks 2025 Schedule

Guilford Cares Senior Walks are taking shape for 2025! They will take place monthly on Tuesday mornings at 10:30, May through October.

  • May 20 - Green River Meadows, Guilford

  • June 17 - Former Ashworth Farm, Guilford

  • July 15 - Bassett Hill Road, Guilford

  • August 19 - Pool Nature Center, Marlboro

  • September 16 - Top of Melendy Hill, Guilford

  • October 14 - “Beyond the Fairgrounds,” Guilford

For our first walk on Tuesday, May 20th, we will gather at Green River Meadows at 10:30 AM. Linda Lembke and Karen Murphy will guide our observations about the role conservation has played in the history of this floodplain and other lands along the Green River. Although Guilford Cares sponsored a walk through this meadow a few years ago, there is much more to see and learn now. Community volunteers recently planted 560 trees to improve flood resiliency and to benefit wildlife. The walking path has been modified to accommodate these trees, and new stone steps have been added to improve access to the river. We will stop to talk about the features of the meadow along our walk.

This is an easy one-mile walk on a grassy path along the river. We will meet at the kiosk on Green River Meadows (0.7 miles south of the Green River covered bridge). A small parking area near the kiosk has room for four cars. Another parking option lies on the west side of the covered bridge. We can walk or carpool to the Meadows from that parking option.
